Globe Road
Rhodar was commissioned as Principal Contractor on the Globe Road development project by Gardiner & Theobald, on behalf of Holbeck Leeds Developments.
A full suite of enabling works was carried out at the site comprising extensive earthworks and materials processing/segregation, remediation of contaminated soils, the installation of hoarding around the site boundary, and localised demolition of above-ground structures.
The 20,000sqm site is situated between the Leeds and Liverpool Navigation Canal and the East Coast Mainline railway into Central Leeds Station and is located on part of the locally historically important former Monk Bridge Iron and Steel Works. Planning approval was granted in 2021 for a new mixed-use development scheme.
Working in close partnership with Gardiner & Theobald, the enabling works were designed to address legacy land-use constraints prior to the main phase of construction. The proposed works were subject to approvals from Network Rail, The Canal and River Trust, the Environment Agency and Leeds City Council.
Due to the historical significance of the site, Rhodar was required to facilitate investigation of the site by the West Yorkshire Archaeological Society (WYAS) under direction from the County Archaeologist during the earthworks programme.
